Formation

In order to be able to evangelise the good news of Jesus Christ, we must be formed in his teaching. The primary source of this formation is in the liturgy - in our Sunday Mass celebrations, in our celebrations of the sacraments, in our weekday Masses and other liturgical celebrations.

This primary formation is regular, frequent and ritual. It comes in the hearing of the word of God, in the homily, in our participation in liturgical prayer, and in our celebration of the mystery of faith in the Eucharist.

From time to time, the parish offers additional formation opportunites to deepen our faith, our understanding of scripture, our sprituality and the various ministries in living out our Catholic life. The parish also organises speakers to address the community on topics of interest, as well as organising parishioner groups for attendance at major seminars outside the parish.

We also provide regular in-parish formation opportunities. For example, each year the parish runs a series of scripture reflections during Lent, in collaboration with our Anglican and Uniting Church neighbours. Another example is the Adult sacrament formation sessions, principally held from September to March, which all parishioners are invited to join and assist those people who are preparing for baptism or full communion with the Catholic church. These are wonderful opportunities for deepening our faith and understanding of the scriptures.

Please consult the newsletter for details of upcoming formation opportunities.
